FARM TABLES

One of our strong selling points here at the Good Old Days Country Shop is our made to order reproduction farm table. We have dozens of these in our very satisfied customer's homes. You will be able to see some of these tables in their new homes at the end of this page. But first, let me tell you a bit about how they are made. We wanted the look and feel of an early farm table, or that which would resemble a table from the pioneers and those that built this great country of ours. To do this, we use old worn and aged wood for the tops when we can find it. Our finishing process completes the faux appearance of a table a century or more old. We started out making very primitive simple farm tables. As word spread about our custom table making, customers wanted various twists on the table's design. As a result, we have made these tables with solid cherry tops and bases, solid oak tops, round tops, and in various sizes and configurations.

Options: We are very flexible in our table design and will work with you to design a table that is pleasing to your eye, yet ergonomically correct. The following options have been offered to previous customers and we will be willing to work with you to build any configuration even if you don't see the option listed here.

  • Table tops - 2 to 5 board tops typically. Depending on the look desired, we will use old recycled white pine, newer wood or hardwood. Tops can be solid (glued up) or made with individual boards overlapping (the way they used to be made).
  • Table base - Typically are made of maple in order to take the abuse. All joints are mortise and tenon and then pegged for extra strength. There is typically a bead along the bottom edge of the aprons.
  • Base configurations - Several leg styles to choose from. In addition, we can provide rectangular, square, or round bases with or without stretchers. See photos for an idea of typical table bases we have built.
  • Drawer(s) - A drawer or 2 can be built into the table base. Our drawers are made the old fashioned way with hand-cut dovetails, and wooden drawer slides, the way they used to be made. No metal drawer slides here!
  • Breadboard Ends - Tables tops can be provided with a breadboard end that provides a finished touch to the ends of the table as well as to assist in keeping the table top flat and stable
  • Company Boards - These boards are typically 12 to 14 inches wide and slide into the end of the table providing additional seating. This option can make a table that used to seat 6, now seat 10.
  • The Finish - Known for our museum quality finish, we can put the final touches on your table to make it look just right. Depending on your needs and wants, we can provide a hand rubbed wax finish, a rubbed shellac or varnish finish, or a sprayed lacquer finish on the top. We will consult with you the various tradeoffs of protection vs. repairability. The base typically is stained, and then painted 2 colors. In many cases we have used milk paints for those who want the most authentic look.

Our prices are very reasonable for a custom made farm table. Typically, depending on the table style and options, our customers have paid between $699 and $2299. Let us give you a quote.
